Carolyn currently works as a freelance landscape architect and garden designer and is based in Manchester. Please use the contact form if you want to get in touch.Carolyn qualified as a Landscape Architect in 2003 at the University of Gloucestershire, following retraining from her previous profession in theatre design, and became a Chartered Landscape Architect in 2007.
Carolyn originally trained as a professional theatre designer, and worked in theatre, film and television for 8 years, before retraining as a landscape architect. She believes this design experience brings a fresh and creative approach to landscape and spacial design.
As part of the multi-disciplinary team in Austin-Smith:Lord’s Manchester office, Carolyn’s work spanned a wide range of projects from masterplanning mixed use developments, campuses and riverside parks, to detailed design and implementation of contemporary schemes and sensitive settings for listed buildings. Carolyn’s experience includes cultural, urban, residential and commercial schemes in the public and private sectors.
Other recent projects include leading the detailed landscape design for the Liverpool Central Library refurbishment, where a dramatic new entrance sequence is proposed to engage the public and enhance the Library’s status as a cultural destination.
Carolyn is the website coordinator for and an active member of the Landscape Institute North West.
